It’s Christmas time. The pressure is on to get the tree and lights up—all the things that go with having a happy holiday.
We have created a brand-new cartoon for you, featuring my characters, Ben Born Again and YellowDog. And by the way, this is our fifth cartoon! And this one is a little longer than the others; it’s about 11 minutes. It’s called, “Christmas on the Beach.”
I’ve been drawing this crazy dog, YellowDog, since I was kid. Then I started drawing Ben Born Again maybe in 1970 or so, after I became a Christian; he’s sort of my alter ego (what I would like to be because Ben does things that I can’t do, like play the guitar, ride a snowboard, surf well. . .).
But in this Christmas special, we introduce some new characters into the world of Ben Born Again.
You’ve probably heard me make jokes about cats before, but actually, I sort of like cats. There is a cat in my neighborhood that walks around like he owns the place. . . It’s Hopkin’s world and we’re all living in it. So I decided to make Hopkins into a cartoon character. You will be introduced to him in this special. He is YellowDog’s nemesis.
Willie is another new character. He’s a country boy from Alabama and he’s not a Christian yet. He’s coming into the Ben universe as someone open to hearing the message of the gospel, but it’s new to him.
Finally, Summer is our other new character. She is our first female character, actually. I really like her! And she is voiced by the talented singer, Brennley Brown. You will see she was the perfect choice.
We also have some surprise appearances to look out for. These guest stars include Franklin Graham and Pastor Skip Heitzig. You have to look really hard to find them, but they’re in there.
These cartoons are a form of evangelism in reaching younger people. So, it has to be funny, but it also has to deliver the gospel. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the gospel presented so overtly as we have them in Ben Born Again & YellowDog.
